Bridging Visa
Recently, the Directorate General of Immigration of Indonesia introduced a new policy called the Bridging Visa, also known as a Transitional Stay Permit. This new visa aims to streamline the immigration process for foreign nationals already in the country by allowing them to transition between different stay permits without having to leave Indonesian territory. This is a game-changer that saves time, money, and hassle.
Who Can Apply?
The Bridging Visa is for foreign nationals who are already in Indonesia and need to apply for a new stay permit. This includes individuals holding a:
- Visa on Arrival (VOA)
- Visit Visa (C and D)
- Limited Stay Permit (KITAS)
This visa is specifically designed to prevent overstaying while a new permit application is being processed. It is particularly useful for those who wish to convert their existing visa type, such as moving from a Tourist Visa to a Work Visa or an Investor Visa.
To apply for the Bridging Visa, you typically need to prepare:
- A valid passport.
- Your current visa details.
- A recent photograph
The application must be submitted electronically through the official e-Visa website no later than three days before your current permit expires.
The Bridging Visa acts as a “bridge” between your old and new stay permits. It is valid for a maximum of 60 days and is non-extendable. This period gives you enough time to complete the application process for your new visa or KITAS.
This visa is not for work, and you cannot earn income on a Bridging Visa. It is only meant to maintain your legal status while your new permit is being processed. The ability to begin a new job or activity is only granted after your new, relevant permit (like a Working KITAS) is issued.
The Bridging Visa is a single-entry visa, and it becomes invalid if you leave Indonesia. If you do not apply for a new stay permit within the 60-day period, you must leave the country before the Bridging Visa expires.
